Google doesn't want to send shoppers to your store anymore.

It wants to close the sale itself.

Google is quietly turning Search into a checkout page.

Shoppers can now buy products directly inside Google Search using Google Pay — without ever visiting your store.

Why it matters: AI-attributed orders on Shopify grew 11x between 2025 and 2026. More buyers are discovering and purchasing products on Google's surfaces, not brand websites.

The surprising part: Most brands aren't blocked by technology. They're blocked by bad product feeds.

Before involving your developers, audit these 3 things in Google Merchant Center:

  • native_commerce attribute enabled

  • Complete return policy data

  • Accurate shipping settings

Miss one, and your products may never get the Buy button.

The opportunity: Shopify and BigCommerce merchants are already positioned to participate. Many brands can become eligible in a single afternoon.

Don't stop at eligibility. UCP purchases can happen without a website visit, which means standard analytics may miss the sale entirely. Set up proper attribution now, before this channel becomes mainstream.

Bottom line: The next ecommerce battleground isn't ranking #1 in Google. It's being buyable wherever AI and Search send shoppers.
