The next ecommerce battle won’t be for human attention. It’ll be for AI agents.
Amazon quietly revealed it’s building a 40-person “agentic commerce” team focused on connecting its marketplace with AI tools like ChatGPT.
Translation: bots may soon decide what products consumers see, compare, and buy.
Why this matters for DTC brands:
SEO is evolving into AEO (Agent Engine Optimization).
AI agents will rely on structured product data — not pretty branding alone.
Incomplete product titles, weak attributes, and poor backend data could make your products invisible to AI shopping assistants.
Amazon wants controlled access. Not scraping. Expect pay-to-play APIs and new ad formats built for AI-driven discovery.
The big shift: Consumers may stop “searching” and start asking. AI becomes the new storefront.
My prediction: Brands that optimize for AI agents early will gain massive distribution advantages over slower competitors.

Improve titles and attributes
Strengthen reviews and trust signals
Think beyond clicks — optimize for AI recommendations
