Pure broad Meta targeting hits a spending ceiling fast. Frequencies rise, CPMs spike, and ROAS tanks because the algorithm gets stuck targeting only the safest slice of your audience.

Why it matters

  • Audience targeting is the new battleground. Broad ads don’t cut it anymore. Smart segmentation does.

  • Relevance = profit. Ads matched to real buyer interests perform far better — fewer clicks wasted, but more conversions.

What to do now

  • Use buyer data (past purchases, browsing, email lists) to build tight custom audiences.

  • Layer on behaviour and interest filters: who follows your niche? What pages do they visit? What problems are they trying to solve?

  • Test narrow vs wide targeting — then double down on what works.
