Pure broad Meta targeting hits a spending ceiling fast. Frequencies rise, CPMs spike, and ROAS tanks because the algorithm gets stuck targeting only the safest slice of your audience.
Why it matters
Audience targeting is the new battleground. Broad ads don’t cut it anymore. Smart segmentation does.
Relevance = profit. Ads matched to real buyer interests perform far better — fewer clicks wasted, but more conversions.
What to do now
Use buyer data (past purchases, browsing, email lists) to build tight custom audiences.
Layer on behaviour and interest filters: who follows your niche? What pages do they visit? What problems are they trying to solve?
Test narrow vs wide targeting — then double down on what works.
