AMAZON JAPAN'S LOCAL SELLERS FIGHT TO KEEP THEIR GROUND

Amazon Japan stands out in a world where China-based sellers dominate most marketplaces. With 54% of active sellers in Japan being local, it holds the highest percentage of native sellers among major Amazon marketplaces.

But things are changing.

While Japan remains strong with its local presence, over 50% of new sellers in 2024 are from China, a trend that’s hard to ignore. This shift is a reflection of the growing global reach of Chinese sellers.

To put it in perspective:

  • U.S.: Local sellers make up just 34% of the marketplace.

  • Europe: In key markets like Germany and France, local sellers are under 20%.

  • Canada: It’s the lowest, with just 4% local sellers.

The rise of cross-border commerce on Amazon shows that physical location no longer dictates market success. Amazon has evolved from a retail platform to a global commerce powerhouse. As long as you can leverage Amazon’s logistics and fulfillment network, your products can reach any corner of the globe.

As a seller, the landscape is changing fast. What’s your strategy to compete and stand out in this global market?
